Our Supporters

“We worked with Two by Two Rescue for years. We only ever had wonderful experiences, and only ever encountered people that were committed to caring for animals. They brought us numerous dogs for fostering, always making sure the dogs' temperaments would work well with the animals that were already in our house. They gave us the supplies and the guidance needed to nurse several of the pups back to health, as they were found in all sorts of heart-breaking circumstances before the rescue took them in. They made sure we had the support we needed to take care of every dog we fostered. If our circumstances had not changed, I am sure we would still be fostering for them to this day. Here are before and after pictures of just 2 of the animals Two by Two has helped to heal and find better lives.”

Annie, our beautiful black Labrador mix, was dropped off in a box in Calera a couple years ago.
Her precious body was so full of infection and parasites that she couldn’t open her eyes. Two by Two discovered the box with her and her two siblings and nursed them back to health. Annie was then placed in foster care and that is when she rescued us! Thank you so much Two by Two for the blessing she is!! This is Annie now!! 65 pounds of love!

I would like to share my story about my adorable rescue from Two by Two. In May 19,2018 I was running errands around town when I made my last stop at my local pet store for dog treats for my fur babies. When I walked in my heart was captured by an adorable rescue fur baby girl that Two by Two had rescued from a horrible hoarder situation. They rescued 22 dogs from a one-bedroom apartment. Most all had suffered from a lack of food, never going outside, malnutrition, health issues, no love or compassion! I knew in my heart that I had to hold this baby girl. I was allowed to hold her & walk around with her while I shopped. I found out what I needed to do to adopt her. I went on line, filled out my application & then I was called for a home visit with my baby girl & my other babies. It was just a rough go for her at first because she had bonded with her foster mom, who was just amazing. Our sweet girl slowly but surely became a part of the pack & our family! She still had a multitude of health issues that required more than regular vet visits, which Two by Two offered to cover! I was grateful and thankful, but I told them many thanks, but she was our precious little girl & help the other doggies get home. Liza has been the best dog & she obviously runs the show at our house! I cannot say enough about Two by Two rescue! The love & compassion they show all the animals is true & transparent! I do not understand why anyone would question anything about them? It is heartbreaking! I just wanted everyone to know how much our family appreciate the rescue, fosters, everyone who adopts!

In August of 2010, my 9-year-old daughter asked my wife and I if we could get a dog. Our beloved 13-year-old yellow lab "Tanner" had died in March of 2009, and I was still grieving the loss of a great companion who had been such an important part of our family. We agreed but wanted her to choose the dog. Shortly after, my wife saw a notice for an upcoming adoption event hosted by Two by Two, a wonderful organization dedicated to finding homes for pets in need. We decided to take a look at the dogs, and we were excited about the possibility of bringing a new dog into our family.  While looking around, we came across a group of puppies that we were told came from the same litter. All the puppies looked different, and we were informed they had been rescued from a wooded lot in Helena. It seems the mother was a stray, and the puppies needed care. My daughter fell in love with one puppy. We were told his name was Hammock because in foster care, a young girl in the host family used to cradle him to ease his anxiety. We applied to adopt Hammock and after a series of suitability checks and a home visit we were blessed with a new dog in September of 2010.  Almost 15 years later, Hammock (renamed Jag by our children) is still with my wife and me. All the kids have grown up and moved away and Jag is showing his years, but there is still a sparkle in his eyes when any of our children return home for a visit. He has been a constant companion, enjoying hikes, camping trips, visits to Canada, walks on the beaches of Dauphin Island, and a host of other activities over the years! His is a life well lived, and he has made our lives more meaningful and fulfilled. Thank you, Two by Two, for the blessing that is Jag.

Best regards,

Greg

I have supported Two-by-Two in the past and am currently a monthly supporter. I have never heard of anything untoward about anything at Two-by-Two.

They have been helpful in placing strays and providing placement. Five years ago, I adopted a new born mixed breed Lab/Pyrenees. Because I'm an old Beatles fan, I renamed her 'Sexy Sadie'. She is now 5 and my best friend.

I know of no impropriety neither have I heard of any at Two-by-Two.

I hope the investigation will be fair and return to normal operations and management.

Sincerely,

-Bill

Hi,
We got our boy from y’all back in December of 2018. The lady we dealt with was Heather and was super nice and helpful. His name was Cinnamon but we changed it to Boomer as he has a wonderful booming howl when he gets excited. As you can see from the images he has grown into heathy boy.
Thank you for your dedication and service.

Hello, a while ago I saw something moving in trash while at a light.  I almost wrecked what was a pup. Poor thing was dying, rushed to the vet, her gums were white. They said she wouldn't make it. I gave her meds; thankfully, she recovered! My daughter found u guys on Facebook.  I met a lady she fostered the pup and sent me pics. Also found out pup is deaf which is why she was going into traffic.  Attaching pics of her.

I saw a picture of our sweet Molly on your website. My husband was looking for a farm dog but when I saw her face I told him she was my dog and he was on his own! She was with a foster dad, Davis was his name. He called me after I put in my application and told me he was considering her to be his first foster fail. After a while he called me and told me he would meet with our family. He lived in the city and Molly needed somewhere she could run. We live in the county in Cullman and have a farm so we knew she had room to run. We met him and Molly at a park near us and knew we couldn’t leave without her. She clung to me (her new mom) for a week or two. Now she just comes to me for food mostly lol. The dog I thought would be my companion has ended up being the dog my husband calls to cuddle with him at night. She is the dog my two young girls call to lay with them during the day (and sometimes at night if their dad doesn’t steal her from them 😅). She wasn’t necessarily great with cats like we thought she would be, but we have determined she has several types of hunting dog in her so it’s understandable! We could not have gotten a better dog. We kept the name the rescue gave her because she looked like a Molly to us. She runs freely on our farm during the day. Sometimes getting in the pond that we really wish she wouldn’t get in, but we put a blow-up pool behind our house and she’s lounging in that during the summer now! She is literally best dog we could have asked for. Came to us house trained and we have never had any issues with that. Our girls can do literally anything with her, whether it’s putting clothes on her or hair accessories. If they call her into their room to sleep with them she always goes. If she thinks our girls are in danger (mostly from their dad aggravating them) she will jump in and put herself in between her girls and what she may see as a threat. My girls can ask anything of her and she will do it. If she thinks you are mad at her or that she has done something she shouldn’t, she will jump up and cuddle you so hard. She doesn’t get in trouble much, trust me lol. She has been the most perfect addition to our family and we can’t thank Two by Two Rescue enough for our Molly girl!

I don’t know about any of the bad publicity or accusations but if you need someone to speak on your behalf PLEASE let me know! We are so thankful and blessed to have gotten our girl from you and have kept in touch with her foster who seems to be an amazing person as well! Use our story anytime you need to! And if I can be of any help please reach out to me and let me know!!

A black, tan, and white dog with floppy ears resting on a gray couch.

I came across Two by Two when I was in college at UA. I saw a photo on their Facebook page of a little blind beagle (Shep) they had found wandering the highway in Birmingham. He was already missing one eye and the other was in bad shape, but I absolutely loved him. I emailed them immediately and went to meet him with my dog, Banjo. I filled out an application and was so lucky to be chosen to be Shep's mom. Two by Two set him up with an eye specialist and he was scheduled to have his other eye removed due to it causing severe pain.

Sonya, the founder and Jennifer, Shep's foster mom, were in contact with me every step of the way. It was obvious they loved Shep as though he was their own.

Two by Two took a chance on me, a 23-year-old college kid, and am so grateful we crossed paths. We got to enjoy life with Shep for another 10 years before he passed. I've adopted five dogs from various groups and facilities since then and none have had the same impact on my life as Two by Two.

Collection of photos featuring dogs, including a close-up of a dog with black spots, a dog with eyes closed, a smiling dog with a collar, a dog with a cowboy hat, and a dog relaxing with a tie, along with a dog in a garden among flowers and a social media post about a blue-eyed blind beagle named Shepard.
Side profile of a German Shepherd dog lounging indoors near a window and potted plant.

Our friend mentioned his neighbor was a foster for Two by Two.  He saw the foster mom walking a German Shepherd in the neighborhood and knew we loved the breed.  We contacted Two by Two and in a few days the foster mom and her husband brought Yuna to our home for a 'get to know each other' gathering.  Yuna was a pretty girl and instantly got along well with our 12-year old mixed breed we had adopted when he was a tiny thing.  He's much smaller than Yuna so it was imperative that they get along.

Two by Two explained the details from start to finish, they were very thorough.  I've dealt with many dog rescues, metro animal shelters, etc. in the past and some were okay and meant well, others were disgusting and a few had all the pieces but couldn't put them together and failed.

It still blows me away how Two by Two manages to do what they do, and do it well.  They don't have a brick and mortar building that they work out of.  They are all volunteers; every single one of them are volunteers and work out of their home.  They care for the dogs.  I mean really care about them.  It's not a dog and pony show.  Instead of us making the decision on the adoption, Two by Two wanted to make sure we were going to be good humans for Yuna.

Our dear Yuna has been with us for 4 years now and we wouldn't have it any other way.  It all started with our friend who had a neighbor walking a dog and a group of volunteers who cared.  Huge thanks to Yuna's foster mom, Nancy.  She has a super special place in our heart!

Hi,

In October of 2024, I adopted my dog Oswald from Two by Two Rescue.  He is a beagle and was being fostered by a very nice couple.  I wanted an older dog to fit with my Bassett/Walker hound mix Lisa who was 14 at the time.  He was estimated to be 8 years old when adopted.  Oswald had a difficult history I was told. He was found in a burning house with his backside on fire.  Apparently, he looked like he had not been fed in a while.  The couple who fostered him said he loved to eat, and was very social. Over time that has been true - it did take him a while to trust me.  He now loves to cuddle up on the sofa, enjoys pats and snuggles and will seek them out. He wants to eat whatever I am eating, and will clean his bowl very quickly. I did find out he is severely hearing impaired as indicated by my veterinarian, not a surprise given a history of ear infections noted by the foster couple. It has meant adjusting from a verbal approach to working on signs with him.  Oswald and I have worked out our communication system over time - he is a quick learner and keeping to a routine has helped. He and Lisa get along very well which was a relief.  I have been very happy with this adoption, he is a very sweet dog and loves to walk, as do I.

We had a wonderful experience with Two by Two back in January of 2025. I had seen 2 pitiful small, black, matted dogs on Facebook that had been taken to the Chilton Humane Society. By the time I had contacted the Humane Society about them, Two by Two had already stepped in to rescue them, Bonnie and Clyde, due to their deplorable condition. We applied to foster them. Poor Bonnie had to have her eye removed at Hope Clinic and needed to stay another day or so. We were told we could pick up Clyde at Hope Clinic right away. He was in awful shape due to having been roaming the streets with Bonnie prior to their rescue for a while obviously. Two by Two could not have been more supportive. They delivered Bonnie to us along with all the supplies we could possibly need to take care of them. Keep in mind that one of their volunteer workers drove Bonnie from Bessemer to Clanton to help us out. They made amazing recoveries due to Two by Two seeing that we got all the vet care they needed— we could not have paid for all the medical bills incurred with their conditions. Bonnie now has an amazing forever home in Inverness and Clyde is a permanent resident at our house. This organization amazed us with their love and compassion for animals in dire straits and we are forever grateful.

I've adopted twice from your rescue.  Bobbi (dog) and Milo (cat).  I live in Georgia over 2 hours away, but you guys were awesome and extremely easy to work with.  I adore these two and, am thinking of another.  I lost my older boy last year.  I truly appreciate your God based mission and your love of animals.  Thank you again,

“2x2 has helped me rescue and foster over 30 local pups of any breed.

2x2 has always covered all vet and food needs.

2x2 is a wonderful rescue that I will always work with.

Love all the volunteers that put in countless hours for these lovely animals.

Thank you”

I adopted a female Mountain Cur in August of 2020.  She had been found under a burned-out house with 8 babies.  Two by Two rescued all of them and found homes for all her babies, then placed Maera with me.  I was impressed by how nice the air-conditioned space was where they'd been kept, and how relaxed Maera was, which is always a sign an animal has been treated well.  She was clean and healthy and had been spayed and had all her vaccinations.

I find myself surprised that there has been any trouble, as I have recommended Two by Two consistently over time.  Their reputation at that time was that they didn't take just any animal, but the ones they took they took great care of them and rehomed all of them.

-Laura

“My family and I fostered through Two by Two for a few years. During that time we had several sweet dogs that we personally saw treated with top medical care. Any time an issue came up, someone with the Two by Two team made sure the dogs’ needs were met. Each time. Additionally, we found a dog that Two by Two allowed in to their system. This pup’s medical needs were met, along with getting him neutered. They helped us advertise him and found him the perfect home! Once a co-worker found a box of 6 abandoned puppies. They were malnourished and full of worms. Once again, it was Two by Two to the rescue. All medical needs were met immediately. We were able to foster these sweet babies and find them all homes. Two by Two has saved countless animals. I have seen the good that they do with my own eyes. I will never believe that this organization is anything but good and honest.”

“I discovered Two by Two when I saw a post about Woody and have been a regular donor to support Two by Two. Not sure what has led to the audit or the other nastiness being posted. What I do know is that a lot of dogs have benefited from Two by Two and Sonya King's efforts and I hope that doesn't stop. I've never met Sonya King but I always appreciated her Southern Charm and Faith.

Fix the issues, separate the facts from the personal attacks and move forward. Shelters are popping at the seams, and no one has time for B.S. when there is work to be done.

Best wishes - please pass that on to Ms. King.”

Our boy Skippy is a Two by Two adopted furbaby two years ago. He came from a foster home and he seemed well and cared for by his foster family and we are happy to share he's finally maturing but from the beginning he was well behaved.

I'm not sure why people feel they need to attack folks who are trying to do good in the world.  I don't see any of them fostering or contributing to helping these fur babies get into homes.

-Gail

I think Sonya did a good job with Two by Two Rescue. She kept us up to date on the animals and their condition. She always answered any questions I had and I feel like she has been misjudged. Two by Two Rescue served Helena people well. She went out and answered the call for pets that needed rescue. Daily she was on the search for mistreated or injured animals.  Sometimes you can’t please all people. Sonya has been our animal’s friend in need.

This episode seems to me to be undeserved. I’lll stand up for Sonya’s love and respect for the animals.

- Phyllis

Oh, Jan, who would do this to you guys?

How many years have we worked together, me as a contributor and a one-time potential adopt me and you as running your organization with a heart full of gold and such concern for every animal that you have ever taken care through your organization.

All I can say about you guys, is that you have always been superlative in what you do and how you do it. The caring concern you have always demonstrated for God's creation has been consistently wonderful.

You have our full support, and if there is anything that we can do for you through this time of investigation, please let us know.

I know the Lord will bring you all through.

  Love,

Tracy and Roger

I loved working with Two by Two as a foster.  Never had any problems at all.  Unfortunately, I moved out of state, and I do miss Two by Two and the entire staff.  I try to work with the Rescue here in West Virginia but it’s not really the same.  In my opinion, Two by Two seemed to work together as a family and loved their mission.  I couldn't imagine any wrong doing, but in this day and time, you never know.

Thank you,

- Chappel

I got my beautiful, sweet dog from Two by Two four years ago. I am so thankful for their operation. I appreciate their efforts in helping the abused, neglected animals. This is a great organization.

Two by Two Rescue,

In 2019 my younger brother died unexpectedly. He left behind Rose, a sweet dog, who loved Wayne dearly and whined as she saw the paramedics bring his body out of his home.

We were unable to take Rose since our own dog was in poor health and required so much care. We were desperate to find a good home for Rose and so happy Two by Two was able to accept her.  Our family has happily made donations to this wonderful organization since then.

 -Denisa

Love Two by Two!  I have rescued 3 beautiful dogs from 2X2. They care about their animals and only place them in foster homes!  No kennels where dogs are caged!

-Sarah

I adopted a dog through your agency. It pains me to hear the stories of dogs that are not being adopted. I've also followed the story with the allegations. I think the best thing you could do right now is work hard to get this analysis completed. Those allegations are serious and I hope they're not true. But I think information needs to be shared in order to maximize the donations. Just my two cents. -Sarah

My husband Randy and I adopted from 2X2 rescue and contributed whenever we could. After Randy died I found solace in continuing to be helpful to your successful rescue efforts.  I even fostered a few of the seniors, some of whom needed extra assistance. And 1 pup who died of an age-related cause after several months. I even adopted 2 of my fosters and they're still with me!

My health precludes adding fosters or adopting more pups. I still contribute when possible.

Your people have always been special and dedicated to the rescue and adoption of needy animals!

I TREASURE KNOWING YOU AND ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP 2X2 RESCUE MOVING FORWARD.

Kathleen, Patsy and Jellybean. Along with all the others before them!!!

The pom I adopted from you (I named her Angel, she was a miracle). She was fostered by Deborah and Joe. She was blind, no teeth and could not really hear.  Found in yard at only 4 lbs.  I ended up getting her cataract surgery and she could see, amazing.  So exciting for her.  We moved to Ohio 3 yrs ago and she died about 6 months after that.  I adopted a little red/white pom from a Columbus, Ohio rescue couple years ago.  She is almost 11.

I support the retired veteran dogs and can only do so much.  I do give one time a year to 2x2.  I wish you luck and treasure the time I had with Angel.

-Lynda

Good morning,

I do not know the things that are going on within Two by Two, but I have always felt confident in contributing to several causes for animals that needed medical care. I will continue to do so. I pray that whatever the situation is, that it will be resolved quickly and all the rumors will be settled, and you all can focus your time, energy and resources on the animals.

Thank you.

Crystal

I wouldn’t have been able to keep my dog, Lita, for as long as I did without Two by Two Rescue’s help with her expensive medicines like Insulin, Proin, and special foods. It was at a time I had no income besides the paintings I painted and sold for her care. I will never forget Two by Two because of this. Thanks for all that you do!

 Sincerely,

Charmin

Over the past year as a new foster, I've been able to watch "the process" first hand. Honestly, it's been humbling to see the dedication and level of care the staff and volunteers have for this mission. Whether it's putting themselves in a very tough neighborhood day after day to rescue a dog, (in freezing temps) or dropping everything on Sunday morning to come to my house to give my foster his vaccinations because they were about to be due ... it's what they do!!! It is a privilege to get be the smallest part of this group of committed staff and volunteers!!!!

Dear Board Members,

I have been supporting the Two by Two Rescue organization since they rescued the emaciated pit bull named Spirit. Her story was so heartbreaking, and the love, kindness, and resources Two by Two put into her rehabilitation was above and beyond. I believe in this organization and their dedication to relieve suffering in our forgotten, neglected, and abused furry friends.

Sonya King has stepped up to do an impossibly difficult job, and it is my hope her vision will continue to prosper for future animals in need. We need people like Sonya and her organization to keep doing the hard work.

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi! I adopted Alex (formerly Chase) in 2017. His rescue was not a remarkable one but so meaningful to me and my family. He was found near Thompson High School with his brother "Jase". What we previously thought was a border collie mix about a year old turned out to be a six month old husky/Great Pyrenees mix. We still laugh at his growth spurt. He is now about 90lbs and has all the personality and selective hearing of a GP. LOL!

Alex has brought so much joy to our lives and I am so grateful for you and his foster family for taking him in until he found his forever home. He is the best and happiest pup.

I have attached a photo from his online profile and what he looks like now.

This would not have been possible without you!

Amanda

The right photo shows the same dog outdoors on grass, sitting, wearing a purple bandana, with a leash attached, and smiling.

I ended up not adopting from Two by Two only because it was not a good fit at the time for me and my dog. Idealt with Tabitha and everything about dealing with her was excellent.

At the time I was interested in Declan who is a sweet boy rescued from  a dog fighting situation.  He is very sweet and I was however concerned that he was so scared and that I personally couldn't help him at the time even though my dog was very happy to see him.I kept in touch with Tabitha about Declan and watched the website often to find that he was adopted in the hopes of being a rescue dog.

Therefore, my experience with Two by Two was very positive.

Thank you,
Laurence

We cannot say enough positive things about 2x2 Rescue. We first adopted Charlie (formerly Beauregard) in 2020. The foster family was easy to work with. During the adoption process, he fell in foster care and broke his leg. 2x2 covered the costs of his vet bills for the next 6 weeks while he was in a cast and being treated.

2 years later we adopted Stanley (formerly Pyro). Stanley was a stray from the streets and came to us traumatized from his precious life (before 2x2). When we had a behavior issue between him and our son, they connected us with Anthony from "No Worries" Dog Training. He evaluated our family and Stanley at no cost to us and recommended a few training tips that helped us all. Stanley is thriving in our family. During this period, we were worried that we had a big issue on our hands. The 2x2 Team was responsive, understanding and empathetic.

I honestly cannot believe the services they provide at such a low cost to the adopting families.

A brown dog with a white chest sitting on a garden pathway with plants and a fence in the background.

Meeks was rescued by Two By Two Rescue three years ago when she was a small puppy. She and her mother and brother were spotted in a wooded area in an industrial park. Her brother was caught first and Meeks about two weeks later. She was in poor condition and spent a week at the vet's office until going to live with a foster before her adoption. Volunteers were unsuccessful in locating the mama dog. When we adopted Meeks it was clear that she'd been in a loving foster home and had good veterinary care.

Meeks is a mix of Great Pyrnees, Siberian Husky, and Pit. She is loving, playful, and is a non-aggressive guardian (she stares hard and barks loudly). She's a great traveler who loves going on road trips. We love her dearly and are thankful she is a member of our family.

-Kelly

We adopted Poe in 2022 from Two By Two. The process was easy and he has been a wonderful addition to our family. He and I hike weekly and he has traveled with us all over the country. Two by Two was very helpful and we will be forever grateful for their help in adding Poe to our family.

When we adopted this little guy, his name was Aspine and is now named Basil.  He was terrified of everyone.  It took 5 days for him to even allow us to go near him.  Now several years later this boy is truly our "buddy dog".  He is a determined protector and the most loving pup we have ever had.  Thank you Two by Two for believing in him and his ability to love and be loved again.

Hello,

Our two dogs came from the amazing and kind-hearted folks at 2x2. Winston was rescued after being left when he was little and Phoenix (aptly named) rose from his own ashes with us after 2x2 worked hard to capture him, get him healthy and give him a much better restart in his life. Love transformed them both and we love them both so much. We are grateful to 2x2 for allowing us the privilege of being their forever family.

I have volunteered my time and money to this great organization over the years and consider Sonya an example of believing for good, no matter what bad you have seen. They even offered for us to bring our foster (kids, not dogs) to a 2x2 team event and made sure they got to ride ponies and get their picture professionally done - all for free. These are great people and an organization that does Kingdom work. It makes me sad that they have been questioned in handling anything but I believe in the good in them and will stand up for them. 2x2 has been a great example and made a positive impact in my families lives.
